Painting’s safe passage back to Edwin Fox

When St Vincent de Paul charity shop manager Marianne Govaerts spied a painting of an iconic ship sitting in a pile of recently donated items, it immediately stood out from the flotsam.
The Picton charity shop receives donations every day and while many hold value, some carry a significance that far outweighs a price tag, Marianne says.
“We could have easily sold it, but the painting is of much more value to the Edwin Fox Maritime Museum. As soon as I saw it, I knew where it had to go. There are some things that are not for sale,” she said.
Edwin Fox manager Karen McLeod said the original artwork painted in 1995 was one she had never seen before.
“It’s a beautiful rendition of the Edwin Fox and we are so pleased to welcome it into the maritime museum collection.”
Artist Keith Snow, who moved to New Zealand in the 1970s, spent his younger days sailing small boats around the southeast of England which fostered his interest in marine art.
Mrs McLeod said donations of relevance to the Edwin Fox were always welcome. Council’s Collections Committee manages these.
“If anyone has an item they think is related to the Edwin Fox, please contact us. Every object has a story and we are always keen to learn more about the journeys they’ve made,” she said.
